CR Associates is committed to developing transportation and community facilities that enhance and support the vibrant and sustainable communities we live, work, and play in. We offer specialized expertise in all aspects of civil and traffic engineering design including park and recreation design, bicycle/pedestrian planning and design, mobility and multi-modal design and analysis, transportation planning/land use & smart growth planning, traffic operations and simulation, traffic calming, traffic signal design, traffic control, signing & striping, roundabout planning and design, safe routes to school, and green & Complete Streets development. An in-depth understanding of these highly technical aspects and state-of-the-art computer modeling software are essential to modern civil engineering.

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

Our firm provides exceptional long-range multimodal transportation planning services. We pride ourselves on being able to capture the big picture of a community’s transportation needs along with recommending conceptual designs that are feasible and ready to move into local capital improvement programs. Our staff actively participate in the development of performance metrics and evaluation processes that capture the full spectrum of urban travel in a modally-balanced manner. We are adept at working with transportation model inputs and outputs, conducting level of service analyses, and quality of service assessments. We are experienced in preparing grant applications, and understand the important role of planning documents in these pursuits. Our knowledge and experience translates into the development of planning documents that position our clients to be competitive for scarce funding opportunities.

TRAFFIC OPERATIONS AND STUDIES

CR Associates has a proven track record of completing complex and controversial traffic engineering studies for both public and private clients. We have consistently demonstrated our expertise in conducting accurate analyses and evaluations, and in making the critical decisions required to move projects forward with successful resolution for key issues. These abilities have allowed CR Associates to deliver high-quality traffic engineering documents so that projects can move forward through public review and entitlement processes with ease. Our expertise spans from traffic impact studies, detailed operational analyses, and conceptual engineering using Highway Capacity Software (HCS), SYNCHRO, Complete Street LOS, and VISSIM. We offer specialized services ranging from single intersections to complex urban networks.

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION

Walking and cycling are essential components of vibrant and lively neighborhoods. CR Associates specializes in long-range planning, design, and research services that support bicycle and pedestrian-friendly communities. We are at the forefront of bringing innovative bicycle and pedestrian facility design to local agencies. Our staff includes regular bicycle commuters with firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing urban cyclists. Our integrated approach to active transportation planning combines thoughtful analyses and public outreach to deliver feasible recommendations that are reflective of community goals and support improved mobility for all users. We are also involved in developing local and regional active travel monitoring programs to collect critical bicycle and pedestrian behavioral data. CR Associates understands the shortcomings of current active travel data to support sound long-range planning for these modes. Over the years, we have worked diligently to fill this gap with temporally and geographically rich information that can serve to enhance decision-making in the realm of active transportation.

COLLISION ANALYSIS AND VISION ZERO

CR Associates is at the forefront of recent Vision Zero efforts and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) initiatives designed to develop a systemic approach to citywide collision reduction strategies. We work with cities, academic researchers, and community partners to analyze, anticipate, and mitigate high-volume collision locations to improve safety for all roadway users. Our approach is designed to be flexible enough to respond to your local conditions, yet still conform with state and federal requirements and reporting guidelines.

Transportation Modeling

Travel Demand Models assist planners and engineers in enhancing transportation systems by serving as supply-and-demand tools for Alternatives Analysis. These models utilize data on households, employment, and transportation networks to predict changing travel preferences over time. The analysis helps describe transportation system performance and recommends optimal capital infrastructure projects for funding decisions. CR Associates has heavily invested in personnel, procedures, software, and hardware for travel demand modeling, showcasing expertise in running scenarios, analyzing results, and presenting outputs for public and decision-makers. As a certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) with hands-on experience, CR Associates is uniquely qualified to support projects requiring alternatives analysis, such as General Plan updates and Regional Plans for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO).
